Volunteer Job Description
- Special Events Volunteer
Special Events Volunteers will help run a day of special events. Duties include set-up/tear down, registration, Silent & Live Auction duties including: monitoring silent auction items, assisting during the live auction with spotting and running, helping in the bank, and assisting photographer. Special events occur on weekends or evenings and a volunteer normally works five hours or less on the event day. Volunteer hours are done at special event’s site. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and able to lift light loads.
- Health Fair Volunteer
AAFA-KC attends various health fairs at different locations/events throughout the year. Health Fair Volunteers would set-up & take down AAFAKC booth; hand out information about AAFA-KC/asthma and allergies; and answer any general questions regarding AAFAKC. Health Fairs occur on weekdays, weekends and evenings and a volunteer normally works four hours or less. Volunteer hours are done at the health fair venue, but it is preferred that the volunteer come by the AAFA-KC office prior to fair to pick up booth supplies and drop off after. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and able to lift 30lbs.
- Clerical Support
Clerical Support Volunteers work in the AAFA-KC office. Duties include data entry, tracking auction items, making phone calls, conducting research, and folding, stuffing and labeling envelopes for mailings. Volunteers may also assist with writing newsletters, basic invitation layout in MS Word, PowerPoint presentations and donor database work (additional training may be necessary). Hours are flexible, most must be done in the office during office hours, but some jobs may be completed from home. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
- Speakers Bureau
A Speakers Bureau Volunteer speaks to small groups (i.e. civic groups, professional lunch meetings, etc.). Duties include briefly speaking about AAFAKC our programs, working with the staff on designing innovative ways to get AAFAKC’s message to the public through speaking engagements and maintaining a record of contacts. The volunteer would work mostly out of the office for about two to three hours. Speaking engagements are on weekdays or weekends either day or evening hours. Volunteer must be at least 21 years old and possess public speaking skills.
- Board of Directors Member
AAFA-KC Board members have a commitment to the mission and purposes of AAFA-KC. Prior experience in professional or lay involvement in activities concerned with the prevention, treatment and alleviation of conditions caused by asthma and allergies; personal experience with the problems associated with these conditions; and/or previous work experience with health institutions and agencies is desired. Board members should attend four quarterly Board meetings, possess a willingness to attend and participate in Board Committees and Task Forces, such as fundraising, public relations and programs, the capacity to contribute to the financial needs of AAFA-KC, knowledge of the philanthropic, governmental, professional and other communities and an understanding of the special role of the voluntary health society is desired. Board officers serve two-year terms. All potential board members must complete an application and interview process or be nominated by a current board member. All new board members are voted onto the Board by the current Board members.

During that time, you will learn about AAFA-KC, our history, mission, programs, volunteer opportunities, etc. This will also be our time to get to know you and how you are interested in giving back to our community through AAFA-KC

AAFA-KC will contact you once your volunteer application has been processed. At that time, you will be able to volunteer for the job(s) you have requested. As different opportunities arise, you will be notified via mail, emails and/or phone calls. Some volunteer positions require additional training.
